In my classroom we have started to get away from traditional desks and chairs. I recently lowered my students desks so they can sit on the floor during class, as well as building blocks to create standing desks! I want to take it up a notch by making it a bit more comfortable for them by adding pillows for them to sit on at the low tables and balance boards for my wiggle worms at the standing tables. This differentiation will help my students who struggle to focus while sitting at the traditional desk. It also doubles for great options while sitting around the room to read or doing yoga during a class cool down! It allows my students to take responsibility for their seating and choose what works best for them in our learning environment. My initial flexible seating has proven to work wonders, we just want to make it even better for them!
