As we build community in our classroom, we learn that not everyone has the same skin, likes the same things, or dresses the same way. Children make these observations from a young age and need to learn that, not only is it okay that we are all different, but that it is wonderful! We need to teach young children to accept, honor, and learn from all the differences in our lives. It is essential for children to learn to respect and accept others from a young age. By providing a diverse library of books depicting people from different backgrounds and walks of life, my preschoolers will learn to value and respect the differences between all of us and learn that we are all the same on the inside.
