My students are tackling issues of energy efficiency and showing the viability of alternative energies by building a solar cruiser to compete in a national competition. Unlike typical solar race cars, a solar cruiser is a 4-seater solar car that best represents a solar commuter vehicle.
We will be the FIRST in Florida to build and race a Solar Cruiser in the Solar Car Challenge! This year's race will be at the Texas Motor Speedway. Next year, our solar cruiser will go from Ft Worth, TX to Boulder, CO over a 7-day cross-country race!
The solar panels my students have researched and selected are highly efficient and flexible so they will fit the curvature of our solar cruiser. They are also lightweight which is an additional bonus.
My students are spending hundreds of hours on this project to design, build, and race a full-size custom-made solar cruiser. Large-scale project-based learning where my students focus on systems thinking truly prepare them for the STEM workforce!
