When students are given assignments like "write a research paper" or "identify a problem in the community and draft an action plan" having computers in the classroom gives us not only a tool for drafting our text but for creating engaging multimedia projects to share on a global scale. Research says when students are given an authentic audience to share their work, or when it's published beyond the walls of their classroom they are more inclined to work harder. Having access to Chromebooks will level up assignments with themes like justice and power, societal genocide, investigative journalism, and community problem solving, amplifying my students' voice and impact through meaningful use of technology. My classroom will have the technology to give my students a voice beyond the walls of the classroom through podcasting about social issues, creating video pitches on local problems and even summarizing reading using virtual reality! By helping us acquire dedicated Chromebooks you are gifting my students a creative tool to turn their ordinary writing assignment into the extraordinary. My students to need to be given the opportunity to write for various audiences, and technology will open up more global opportunities for collaboration and communication.
