Imagine a classroom of 12 students with special needs. All are seated on the hard floor in their invisible assigned spots during a whole group lesson. Given the many sensory needs and spatial awareness difficulties these students have, it becomes uncomfortable, the students can no longer keep the image of their invisible boundaries on their floor spot and within minutes, squirminess sets in and the children begin to shift. "Stop touching me!" "You are in my spot!" I eventually need to stop my lesson to redirect my students back to their original invisible spots. This is a common occurrence in my classroom. Even during the most engaging lessons, I lose momentum when I need to stop to redirect a student. I also lose valuable time at the beginning of each lesson while I wait until everyone is in the correct spot. If there was only a way to solve this problem....hmmmm.....oh wait, there is! A colorful rug with 12 squares in which each child has a special spot in a specific color row, reducing the time needed to assist students with their assigned spots.
It would not only serve as a great classroom management tool, but it would make my classroom more warm and inviting. A classroom rug is an investment that will last for years to come! Thank you for considering my classroom for this generous donation.
