I teach in a Title 1 school, with a large minority population. Most of my students come from low-income families. A number of my parents face serious challenges and have to work at least two jobs just to make ends meet. Thus, many of my students do not have access to innovative learning tools. My students are motivated learners who would greatly benefit from Project Based Learning integrated with innovative tools/activities that correlate with the STEM field. The STEM interdisciplinary unit of study helps students develop and build an understanding across academic principles simultaneously. This bridge enables subject areas to be connect through a central theme, issue, problem, process, topic, or experience. My male and female students need a 3D Printer and filament for rapid prototyping to enhance understanding of STEM processes, to make the curriculum more tactile, and to learn physical computing and fabrication.
