I've selected the Time Magazine, Time for Kids, as a source of authentic news reporting to use weekly during small group guided reading rotations. The quality non-fiction text offers bright and vibrant pictures, with exceptional journalistic text on grade appropriate level. By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student literacy, you will ultimately help to increase their overall academic achievement. When students are learning to read, they must read aloud. One of the reasons this is true is because children must first be made aware of the individual sounds, or phonemes, in a word. Once they are aware of these phonemes, they begin to recognize that when these sounds are put together, they equal a word. By raising the learner's phonemic awareness, the WhisperPhone® accelerates the learning process. The whisper phones and Time Magazine will be used together during guided reading rotations. Thank you for your consideration to helping my class grow this year.
