Collaborative learning in my classroom permits students to not only work together to learn math but also allows them to learn teamwork, decision making skills, communication skills, conflict management skills, and leadership skills. Students work in groups as they attempt to solve mathematical problems. By being able to write on the tables, they are able to more clearly demonstrate their thinking. These collaborative tables allow for greater interaction between students since they connect together to form shapes that make it easier for students to work together. Furthermore, the glides on the tables facilitates student movement allowing for more interaction with all their classmates not just those who happen to be sitting next to them in their current desks.
