Think of how things have changed over time. When we were students we learned and practiced on a chalkboard. Now, students are learning by using Promethean Boards and I-pads. Well, when we were students we sat in the standard chair. Now, students are being given the chance to choose their seat. Why is this important? First, imagine being 6 again... What do you think of? Lots of movement, hard to sit in one place for more than 10 minutes, lots of questions, and a love for learning! I want to provide a classroom with different seating options. By doing this it gives students a choice in how they want to learn. By giving them that choice, it will make them feel comfortable in the classroom, which in return MAXIMIZES learning! Students will be able to choose from sitting on a Gaiam Stay and Play Balance Ball, wobble cushions, stools, cushions, and textured carpets to sit on. The Stay and Play balls will allow them to slightly bounce and they do their work (without rolling around). Releasing their energy will help with their overall productivity. The wobble cushions allow for movement as well. It also gives them a chance to slightly move from side to side without causing any distractions. The bumps on them also provide a texture that kids like feel to help keep them focused. If I can make my goal, I would love for parents to come in and see how this impacts students for the best! Could you imagine having a choice in your seating and learning when you were in first grade?
