Balanced Literacy offers a diverse range of materials and learning styles in order to find what sparks children’s interest and get them hooked on reading. My students love working in literacy stations with small groups. Literacy learning choices foster critical thinking and inspires an ownership for learning. I have found that the most successful classrooms use a variety of components spread throughout the day to achieve this goal in reading and writing. My classroom is in need of literacy materials. The word building and phonemic awareness activities I selected will give my students high interest activities choices to help make learning to read fun; helping them become lifelong readers. According to Andrew Merle, one habit ultra-successful people have in common is the love for reading. I want my students to instill the love of reading to increase their confidence and success.
