From my 14 years in education I have learned that the less distractions students have at their desks, the more engaged they are in their learning. The limited space of our classroom combined with our large class size has created minimal space for personal storage. Students do not have a space away from their desks to store their backpacks and belongings. These storage units will be placed on the side wall of the classroom as students walk into the room. Students will be able to place their personal belongings (backpacks, jackets, etc.) in their assigned cubby rather than setting down their belongings by the side of their desks. Not only will these storage units help to declutter our learning environment, they will enable students to walk around the room without stumbling over backpacks.
