The books that I am requesting will be used as mentor texts during my literacy block. We use mentor texts over and over again to expose the students to good writing. They are able to use these texts to inform their own writing and take risks that they may not normally take. In order for students to feel connected to the texts it is important that they see themselves in the texts that we read. I would like to expand my library to include more diverse texts that are culturally and linguistically relevant. When they feel connected to the texts they will be able to be more invested in their learning.
