The students I have the honor of teaching are starting out life with a lot of educational and social "holes". We are a high poverty school with over 84% free and reduced lunch. At my school we believe it is our duty to fill those holes, and provide opportunities to experience all the good things life can offer. Music is one of those good things. Some of our students have never touched a piano or any instrument before they come to my classroom. Once they get to experience that joy, they are hooked! Some of my colleagues have told me that because of the fun music program I offer, their students are excited about coming to school. They stay focused more in class knowing they can be "creative" and get to try new things in a few hours.
