Our students are amazing! Many have already overcome insurmountable obstacles, have jobs to help support their families, are working hard to go to college, and are reaching out to form meaningful relationships with adults who believe in them. Over 85% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many are English Language Learners, and have had somewhat limited opportunities to develop their hobbies and interests. At our school--a small learning community--our students are known individually and supported by people who care for them and believe in them. It is a safe and supportive environment to learn in, and work in, despite the roughness of surrounding neighborhoods. However, because of our intimate size we do not have the numbers to fill a full orchestra or band, but many of our students have requested and shown an interest in pursuing music.
