My school is a Title 1 school in a larger city with a high poverty rate. Many of our students do not come to school with the basic supplies they need to start the year, including crayons, pencils, notebooks, and in some cases, even uniforms. For many of them, the structure of the school day and the consistency of a classroom is a safe haven. I work very hard to create fun, engaging lessons that will keep my first graders eager to learn new things each day.
