Most of us fondly remember elementary school because of the opportunities we were given to create drawings, posters, maps, skits, models and other various art and craft projects. Technology is similar in that it provides learners opportunities of choice when creating their products of learning. However, computers and tablets limit products to the virtual world. Learners need to be allowed and encouraged to interact physically with their learning. We at Perry Elementary are seeking to prepare our young people to excel at communication and problem solving through project-based learning. In Tech Class, we have begun to learn a developmentally appropriate programming language called Blockly. Through this, students can physically interact with their learning by programming robots to achieve desired results. Robots are just one medium that we desire to use to empower young people with their innate ability to create.
