The use of calculators is key in allowing my students to progress in their math education. Returning to in-person classes after distance learning, many students need a bit of extra assistance. A classroom set of calculators will help alleviate some of the the stress and anxiety that many students feel when thinking about math. Allowing the use of calculators will help students focus on the larger concepts that will guide them into future math classes.
This year, my students will be engaged in collaborative learning experiences, in which small-group discussion play a key role. We're two weeks in and already my students are engaged in lively (and therefore loud!) discussions about mathematics. The noise bell will provide me a way to bring the class together even when the noise level in the room is higher. The storage caddies will facilitate greater organization of classroom materials, meaning less time wasted gathering/distributing materials and more time learning. The white board will provide a space for students to engage and work with one another, as well as provide a place for me to write discussion questions or directions outside the door to prime them for class.
