Welcome to our class! We are a busy bunch of eager and excited students who need your support to learn! Each one of the 12 students in my class has a significant intellectual disability, autism, or health impairment (and sometimes multiple disabilities). Nearly 75% of my students speak a language other than English at home and 98% of them live below the poverty line. In addition to serving a large special needs population, our school serves the highest percentage of students whose families reside in homeless shelters of any school in our city. Between budget cuts and limited resources for special education programs, I am often left without the necessary materials to teach my students. Your donations will help bring new learning experiences and necessary supplies to a group of students who have the odds stacked against them, but show up each day so eager to see what the world has to offer.
