The books provided through your support are ones I've identified as responding to the varying needs of my students. They will expand our offerings to include graphic novels and poetry in addition to our traditional prose works. We are always looking for culturally-relevant texts that interest and inspire students, which includes books that are accessible for struggling readers, engaging for visual learners, and that match the reading interests of many of our students who enjoy science fiction and fantasy. These critically-acclaimed pieces of literature will enrich our students' imaginations and self-concept in the areas of race and gender. Students are more likely to improve their reading skills, and to do well in school in general, when they are provided with texts that motivate them to learn and are at an appropriate level of difficulty. My students will be beyond excited to start reading, analyzing, and creating around these fantastic stories.
