I am looking to add two or three sofas to my classroom to promote a safe, warming, and comfortable environment. The sofas will provide an environment to conduct real world discussion and promote participation in a familiar and comfortable setting. I hope that offering a comfortable environment will allow my students to discuss social studies using a personalized and more meaningful lens while encouraging crucial Social Studies discussion to transition out of the classroom and into the world. Currently, my students use desks pushed against the wall as seats and write using clipboards. Occasionally, students will sit on the floor or lay under their desks during independent work time. The sofas, if provided, would replace some of those desks around the room and ultimately offer a flexible seating option for students to learn in the most comfortable way possible.
