Bridging the gaps for students on Individual Education Plans can be a challenge. So often, the curriculum demands of the general education setting fails to differentiate for those students who learn differently. The result of this is students who become frustrated and disengaged. Providing activities and guided practice opportunities at their level serves to scaffold their skill set to move toward grade level mastery of skills. Providing repeated opportunities in the same skill leads to a depth of understanding that promotes learner independence and stamina. The products that I have selected target foundational skills that will allow students to increase their skills set in order to become more independent in their general education setting.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work when they are given materials at their level. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them repeated practice in a way that scaffolds their skills and creates new pathways to success. These products are designed to target skills in reading, writing, and math using a all modalities of learning. Coming at the same skill in a variety of ways generalizes and extends student understanding of that skill.
Through my experiences as a special educator for the last 24 years, I have seem how important it is to not only meet a students where they are at in order to give them the opportunity to grow their learning, but to also provide materials that are engaging and motivating for kids with special and specific needs. I look forward to having more materials that will allow this to happen.
Thank you for considering my project!
