My students are bilingual and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them are new to the country and are learning the language and acclimating to the culture and norms. Many of the parents that I speak to are hardworking individuals that work 2-3 jobs in order to sustain their families. My students love coming to school. They thrive on routine and order. We provide a place to feel safe and have fun while learning. Children work best with stability and we provide that through set schedules, school expectations and daily academic activities. We expose them to new experiences that they wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to encounter. We provide time for them to navigate through internet websites and use word documents since most of them do not have a computer at home.
