Restorative Justice an evidence-based collection of practices that help students understand the harm that their actions cause and how to repair that harm. This approach is especially effective with students who have experienced early trauma, as is often the case with students in poverty. Our students need to learn to repair harm and be reintegrated into the school community. Separation from the community is too often a part of regressive discipline techniques. Students who feel ostracized and behind academically can then often seek to re-offend and continue the isolation where they find comfort. This cycle continues into adulthood and contributes to the school-to-prison pipeline.
