My students are kindergarteners at an International Baccalaureate school that serves a diverse population. I am fortunate that my school and the International Baccalaureate program encourage inquiry and learning through play and hands-on exploration. Our students have access to an inquiry lab with flexible seating, a variety of building materials, and technology. My students love visiting the inquiry lab and have used the design process to prototype their ideas in the lab. My students also have free inquiry time at the end of each day. Students are engaged with MakerSpace activities with recycled materials, puppets, building blocks, art activities, dramatic play, and more. While students are engaged in free inquiry, they are building critical 21st century skills and a solid foundation for their early childhood years.
