My first graders are full of energy and spunk, they don't sit through 30-minute lessons without moving, tapping, rolling or bouncing. Being able to provide them with flexible seating options should not be a privilege for them. Flexible seating is also amazing for students who have disabilities, this provides them with more options on how and where to sit and more importantly learn too. I would like to use wobble chairs, stools, donut balls, and cushions as creative seating options for my class. First graders, just like us, work better when they are comfy and when they can truly focus on their work. My students will be able to try all of thier seating options and I will decide which options best fits their needs and personality. When they are not constantly shifting in their seats they are able to get their work done and more. Giving them the option of working where they feel most comfortable would be a HUGE advantage not only for me (I wouldn't have to repeat myself 30 times!!) but also for their learning.
