Establishing a love of reading is sometimes difficult with middle school students. My students are reading The Giver by Lois Lowry and are greatly enjoying it! Some students have discovered a love of reading for the first time. I want to continue that passion for reading by purchasing a class set of the next novels in The Giver Quartet. Those novels are Gathering Blue and Messenger. My students are thrilled to read these novels in class with an actual book in their hands. Continuing the novel series will inspire students to continue reading literature that explores diversity, cultural differences, and individuality. I hope that this series will promote lifelong reading among my middle school students.
