The materials that I am requesting, drums and supporting percussion instruments, are for implementation of the music curriculum provided by my school district, in addition to the World Music Drumming curriculum in my K-6 Music classroom. The World Music Drumming curriculum has transformed lives and built community through ensemble drumming, singing, moving, playing xylophones and recorders. This extremely engaging and FUN curriculum facilitates in the development of focus, listening, teamwork, and respect while exposing students to music from their own cultures and other cultures around the world. In addition to being incorporated into my teaching of all students, these materials will be specifically used every day in my 5th and 6th grade General Music classes. These classes often contain around 35 students with a large variety of needs, including English Language Learners. It is my hope to provide these students, who have chosen not to continue their Music education via a mastery of a specific instrument in Band or Orchestra, an ensemble experience that they can continue to find relevant to their lives well after elementary school.
