My students will use the supplies provided through this project to hone in on their 21st Century Skills that will make them successful humans in our ever-changing world. You may be asking yourself "What are 21st Century Skills?" and "Why do 3rd Graders need them?". Well simply put, these skills are the basic necessities students will need in order to get a job once they have completed their education. 21st Century Skills include Critical Thinking, Innovation Skills, Communication Skills, and Technology Skills, just to name a few. Integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Activities into the daily curriculum is one-way Educators around the country are developing 21st Century Skills in students. With the supplies from this project, I will personally be implementing STEM Centers into our daily Intervention and Enrichment block. Students will be given the opportunity to explore, create, and problem-solve while they are working in these centers. They will learn to overcome challenges while also expanding the way they think. These centers will have basic instructions and layouts for students to follow. However, student choice will be heavily used and each child will be in charge of their own path. These centers will not only increase the development of 21st Century Skills but will also provide students with the chance to empower themselves and take control of their learning.
