I teach 7th grade science. While I love science for science's sake, part of what inspires me is the ability to integrate literacy, math, social issues, and more within my science instruction. My training and experience as an elementary school teacher and teacher of English as a Second Language help me to address the needs of the whole student. That's especially important at our school, with its equal mix of white, black and Hispanic students. Most of our children are economically disadvantaged, 15% have limited English proficiency, and the rest...well...they have their own unique challenges too, don't they. Despite limited instructional resources, my goal is to engage and excite students with real-world, hands-on, inquiry based activities so as to bring out the inner scientist/scholar in every student. When not teaching I coach the boys and girls soccer teams, play piano for the chorus, and tutor struggling students.
