With full funding, my students will have the base for their historical reenactments and living histories. Costumes help the students get into character and put themselves in the mindset of earlier Americans. With living histories, students study the lifestyles and beliefs of individuals, or an amalgamation of individuals, from a specific time period or event in history. Then, students are given scenarios in which they are required to react as their character would have. This requires students to actually live out history. With these costumes, not only the students who are participating in the act, but those who are given the opportunity to watch the performance, can see history unfold before them down to the thread. With any luck, this project will help my students develop living histories and reenactments that they can share with other classes and neighboring schools for younger grades. How amazing would it be for a high school class to bring the Roaring 20s to a third grade class, or debate the creation of the Constitution for entering freshmen in a government class?
