An uncomfortable student can easily become distracted, and ultimately unproductive. Children need to move, and this is especially true in a special education classroom. Flexible seating allows my students the freedom to choose the best spot for them in order to stay comfortable and on task. In making these decisions, they are taking responsibility for their choices and actions, as well as learning the self-awareness and discipline they need to transition into upper level classes. Flexible seating prepares them for the challenges they may experience transitioning from class to class. Ultimately, easing any anxieties they may have about having multiple teachers and classrooms.
