Our school is in the "Heart" of the Community with the Community in its "Heart!" It serves as a means to success for two housing communities and a large neighborhood. In addition, 30% of the school population consists of transfer students. Ninety-eight percent of our student population are African American and 2% are Hispanic and Caucasian. There are a large number of store front churches but no major businesses like Wal-mart, Target, or Best Buy. Crime seems to be on the rise and gang violence is becoming the norm for children starting in elementary school. Our students are faced with many challenges that hinder them from performing satisfactorily in academics. In addition, major cuts in the state are felt throughout the district, and community. The lack of funding is evident in the lack of resources. Our students need research based technology like a tablet computer.
