Student choice and student voice are important. I have selected some contemporary books in order to give students the power of choosing what they read. Students come from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Too often in education students read only old, dead, white guys. There is nothing wrong with that (I love teaching Shakespeare), but I want to give them more contemporary stories with authors and protagonists that reflect their grounds, heritages, and interests. The goal here is simple: celebrate diversity by encouraging students to find high quality literature that they will love reading, and literature with different perspectives and different voices. Love to learn and learn to love!

About my class
