Every child has a learning style that needs to be allowed to run keeps my students engaged and inspired! Flexible seating has been the best way to let kids learn in a space that is comfortable and least restrictive for them. I started with only the supplies the school had for us: traditional desks, chairs, and tables. I raised up some desks and added some small work tables with stools I purchased on my own. Kids' focus and dedication to class tasks has abounded with this flexible seating. There are many research projects emerging about the benefits of flex seating, but nothing to match my own experience in allowing the children to burn excess energy in the most appropriate ways and focus their minds on their inquiries rather than adjusting their bodies to uncomfortable furniture and old-fashioned desks.
