I teach in a high poverty school located in an inner city neighborhood in a large urban school district. Like many other schools there is just little or no funding for materials and technology that my students need to become successful in the 21st century. The majority of my students come from low income families where their parents have little or no education beyond high school. However, the parents of my students want their children to receive a good education and to excel in school. My students love to come to school and are "sad" on those days we don't come to school like holidays, weekends, and summer. My students are adventurous and will try/attempt to do anything asked of them in the school setting. My students are a joy to teach and I want to provide them with materials that I and/or my school district cannot provide for them.
