Imagine wanting to see a real elephant herd walking around Africa, or to hear the actual sound an elephant mother uses to call her baby. Imagine not being completely fluent in English, and not knowing your alphabet, but you are asked to use a keyboard and mouse. You are 3 or 4 years old, the computer is 10 years old, and you cannot figure out why right-clicking on everything is not a good idea. Now, you are the same child, only now you have an iPad. You are connected to the world through the Internet, and you can learn and practice letters, letter sounds numbers and so much more by simply touching a screen. With your earphones on, you can hear and repeat, follow directions, hear stories, and a whole myriad of other activities due to the wonderful apps that are now available for children's learning. In the houses of my students, there is no Internet, nor computers. That is where my job comes in, to advocate for them.
