In our class, we study rhetoric primarily by analyzing other author's work. Additionally, students are encouraged to develop their own voice to advance a social justice cause of their choosing. In our classroom, my students and I work hard to create a love of reading, speaking and writing . Every day students are expected to read and analyze a novel on their individual reading level. At the end of the week, they are expected to write a five paragraph essay utilizing the skills, especially vocabulary, that they learned during the week. High interest books are always needed to help stimulate the interest of students who avoid reading. Those students who enjoy reading constantly need new selections (and these students often motivate others who might otherwise read only when it is required of them). A number of my students have to take the STAAR reading exam and PSAT for college admission. These books will help to set them up for success. Therefore, I will use the combination of the hard copy books and the eBooks available through the Kindle Fires to provide my students with many more options when choosing books to read. We do not have computers in our classroom, these devices will play a critical role in student research for projects and class discussions that occur monthly.
