During 5th grade students are required to take the science staar test for the first time. For most students this is the first time they are require to truly understand and learn the science concepts. In previous years the science curriculum is pushed a side in order to focus only on those subjects that they are tested. This makes our students learn not only the 5th grade concepts but also those from previous years. In our school the science kits have not been updated for years and new material has not been bought either making hands on activities difficult and expensive. Our science kits are from 2015 after 4 years and being passed on from teacher to teacher they are incomplete. With these new kits students will be able to have more hands on science classes. They will be able to create circuits and analyze how energy travels through it. Student will also be able to review other parts of energy transformation like energy to light, sound, and mechanical energy. This hands on activities will create bigger connection in my students learning and help them be more successful in their science staar test. The pillows are going to be used in our classroom library so that our students have a flexible are to sit while reading during our stations. Also it will make our library more inviting and comfortable for them. My students use their library not only to read but also to have small support sessions when someone in our class is going to a rough time.
