Science is an EXCITING ADVENTURE. Walk into my room and you will see students working collaboratively on projects, collecting experimental data, creating scientific models, recording lists of questions on Post-It's and more. My classroom is non-traditional and active, trying to keep students engaged from the minute they enter class. We learn about earth, environmental, and life sciences, and how we can use this knowledge to make the world a better place. Though my schedule is challenging (between making copies, setting up labs, working with small groups, and running club meetings, I hit my 10,000th step before lunch most day!) my students' energy and curiosity makes me smile every day, and they make all of the struggles of teaching in a public school setting worth it. This year I am doing a research fellowship and a STEM leadership academy to learn even more strategies to make student learning come alive.
