Like most high schools in America, our school offers opportunities for students to achieve success - especially students who are in honors or AP classes. However, 50% of students who enter my English IV inclusion class have IEPs and/or 504 plans. Many of these students have struggled throughout high school and are in need of basic job skills and habits that will help them experience success whether they enter the work force, join the military, or go to college after graduation. The book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, "provides a simple approach to help teens improve self-image, build friendships, resist peer pressure, achieve their goals, and get along with their parents, as well as tackle the new challenges of our time, like cyberbullying and social media." Many of these skills are 21st century job skills, and the business industry reports that these are the skills that high school graduates are lacking.
