My school is in a transitional area, where most parents work. Sports are very important to the parents and students and the school system. These students use laptops all the time to play video games, read, and surf the Internet. Downtime to them is still super-charged with technology. I want to give them the gift of the pleasure of holding a book in your hand and loving it; and the feeling that you do not want to put the book down. I want to create a slow-reading environment in my classroom. My students are smart and they will be future leaders, there is no gifted intervention in Middle School, so I am their intervention. My goal is to create life-long readers who seek information about world history; and make good, moral choices everyday.
