Our campus in Texas has 650 students in grades K-5. We are a public school with students of varying backgrounds. As the librarian it is my goal to get kids hooked on books and making the library a place where all students feel comfortable and love to come. My students love to checkout books and spend time in the library but they would love it more if they had a special place to call their own. Research shows that the more kids read the better students they are. It is very important to give students the opportunity to reach their full potential. This all starts with reading at a young age. If I can provide students with a cozy place to read and establish good reading habits it will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Many parents are busy and do not take the extra time to read with their kids. If I can provide them with a place in which they can come and read during the day for a few minutes their reading skills and love for reading will only grow.
