Our school is very diverse with most of the population being African American. Most of our students hopefully will be first generation college graduates if we can get their attention and direct them into college dependent jobs. They are full of wonder but short on opportunities. I want to change that for them. Presenting the microscopic world and the jobs that organelles do together to sustain life builds the thought of team work. Showing the students the stages of mitosis helps them to understand cellular division and how their body "goes on" and heals itself. For most of my students, it is their first time looking into a microscope ever. They are fascinated by what they see but they struggle with making their own slides. Prepared slides helps them to understand what they should be eventually seeing in their own. It is a microscopic step in helping them to see the infinite possibilities in science.
