My students are multi-dimensional individuals of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, talents, and aspirations. Some of my students walk for more than an hour to get to school and yet I am still greeted with smiles and laughter every morning. They all fight different battles of their own, but we don't make excuses for each other and they know what's at stake if they do not receive the education they need. Our school has a wonderful team of dedicated staff members who go above and beyond to ensure our students are safe. We all share a common vision that all students, regardless of their zip code, have a right to quality education. We do our best to work around financial constraints, but more often than not, we simply cannot cover the costs of providing up-to-date resources for our students. My students are courageous learners, but it is evident that they have a lot of catching up to do before they are on the same level as their peers in other parts of the country.
