My students are an amazing, unique bunch. I have the pleasure of teaching a group of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, some with multiple exceptionalities. My students range in age from 3 to 20 years old. These students are vivacious and tenacious. I couldn't imagine myself teaching another group. Many of my students come from homes where they have no one who can communicate with them. There only means for socialization is school and they travel quite a distance to get there. Yet, they come everyday with their thinking hats on, eager to learn more and become successful in life. As a unit, they have become ambassadors for deaf culture and American Sign Language on their schools campus. Despite this drive my students continuously score below grade level on standardized tests and read well below grade level.
