I am so excited to introduce my students to the blended learning environment. By definition, it is a mix of technology and traditional face-to-face instruction. This type of classroom will allow me to deliver a much more individualized and differentiated approach to teaching math. Students these days are being asked to learn math in a completely new way. Technology can enhance and compliment this new style of learning.
My goal is to not only help those who are behind, but to also challenge those who are working above grade level. Having 100 students arrive each school year with such varying levels of math background, it becomes extremely challenging for a teacher to individualize instruction.
Incorporating computer programs such as Khan Academy and Reflex Math, for example, will allow me to identify individual student's strengths and weaknesses and address them in small group settings. Meanwhile, other students can be using the computers for enrichment activities such as learning how to code. With these Chromebooks, my students will be given the opportunity, in part, to control the pace of their learning.
