I teach 5th grade in an area that has a mix of rural and suburban areas. We are qualify as a Title 1 school, with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. We have a stable population and many of our families attend from kindergarten through sixth grade. Many of our teachers have been at our site for more than 8 years. Once teachers join our staff family, they rarely want to leave. Our school truly feels like a family. My fifth graders are high energy learners. They love to play games and to learn new things. They are always up for trying something new, and aren't afraid to let you know how the feel about it. In recent years, my students have found the traditional setting and expectations of remaining seated most of the day challenging. Overall, students are fidgety and often find ways to move around, even at their desks. Often, these will disrupt others or cause problems in class.
