My school is a Title I school located in a lively neighborhood where many families do not have the funds to provide any financial assistance to their children's classrooms. We have many families who are newly arrived to the country after fleeing turmoil in various East African communities. The students in my class are bright and energetic individuals. Many of my students speak Tigrinya, Somali and Vietnamese. These are languages that are underserved and populations that are severely underrepresented. Nearly all of my lovely students qualify for free and reduced lunch, meaning their families do not make enough money to provide them with three meals a day. In our class we celebrate our unique differences and explore ways to include each culture into the classroom. We are a beautiful and diverse classroom. My students deserve supplies that will provide them the greatest chance for success in school and beyond.
