My students are a blast to be around. There is never a dull moment. My babies love on everyone who walks through our door. Our school is ninety-two percent poverty which means our students come to school with many distractions and short attention spans. We normally have about twenty-five students in our room but this year many have moved away. I aim for my students to have areas in our room that feel like home and allow them to work in a comfortable, calming environment. Many of my students lack in most of those areas. They move often, are passed from parent to parent, to grandparent and back. They lack a safe place or somewhere that is consistent. They are warriors. They find joy no matter where they are. They find a silver-lining and persevere in all situations. They work their hardest to score on or above grade level, and many of them succeed. They deserve a nice carpet area to relax on or sit comfortably on during reading and math lessons.
