My students many times come from homes where they don't have access to books. They need to have access to books and a comfy place to get engaged in their reading. Reading is a vital skill to a child's education and it is my goal to grow students in my classroom who love to read! Research shows that if a student is below grade level in reading at the end of third grade they are much more likely to drop out of school. My passion is to create a learning environment that encourages a love of reading! Access to books and an environment that encourages a love of reading make a huge impact in a student's life at this critical grade level. Access to books has been proven to be a huge indicator of future success. With these books, bins to organize them, bean bags, and stools my students will be able to easily find a book that interests them and get comfortable reading it. This independent reading time not only allows me to meet with small groups for guided reading, but this allows them to grow their reading, improve their vocabulary, and increase their independent reading level.
